Master of Computer Applications (MCA)

Conditions for admission:

The candidate shall be Indian nationals with a Bachelors Degree in any discipline from a University recognized by Kannur University with Mathematics at least at 10+2 level or a pass in BCA Degree from a recognized University.

There will be an entrance test for admission to the course. Subject to the regulation relating to the prescribed minimum of the respective qualifying examination, the minimum marks for admission to the course of studies shall be 40% in the case of candidates belong to SC/ST.

Candidates belonging to backward classes shall be given a relaxation of 5% marks from the prescribed minimum of admission.

Relaxation of 5% marks from the prescribed minimum shall be allowed in the case of physically handicapped persons, determined as such by applying internationally accepted norms.

Duration of the Course:

The course shall extend over a period of three academic years consisting of six semesters.

Requirements of attendance and progress:

A candidate will be deemed to have completed the course of any semester only if

a.   He has put in not less than 75% of attendance.

b.   His progress and conduct have been satisfactory.

Procedure for completing the course:

1. The academic year will be divided into two semesters, the odd semester normally commencing at the beginning of the academic year and even semester ending with the academic year.

2. The course work in the subjects of study of the odd semesters will ordinarily be conducted only in odd semesters and even semesters only in even semester.

3. A candidate may proceed to the course of study of any semester (other than the first semester) if and only if he has completed the course in the previous semester and has registered for the exams of the previous semester.

4. A candidate who is required to repeat the course of any semester for want of attendance/ progress or who desires to rejoin the semester upon his own request is specially permitted to repeat the semester in order to improve his performance may rejoin the semester for which he is eligible or permitted to join.

Assessment:

1. The assessment will comprise the session's assessment and semester examination in certain subjects, and wholly sessional of study and scheme of assessment in section 8.

2. A student may be given the option to improve the marks obtained in theory subjects of any semester (except the sixth semester). There will be no provision to improve the sessional marks unless he repeats the semester.

3. University examinations will be conducted at the end of even semesters for the subjects offered during even semesters.

All examinations for odd semesters will be conducted internally and marks forwarded to the university.

4. Semester marks will be awarded on the basis of continuous assessment made during the semester as per the guidelines framed by the college.

Passing requirements/ Classification of successful candidates:

1.The candidate shall be declared to have passed the semester examination in full if he secures not less than 50% marks in the sessional, not less than 40% marks in each theory and practical examination including projects and viva and not less than 50% of the overall aggregate marks for the semester i.e. examination marks and sessional marks of all subjects of the semester put together. If any candidate gets the minimum aggregate and fails in any two subjects, he will be permitted to appear for those subjects at the ensuing examination. Candidates who fail in more than two subjects will have to appear for the whole examination.

2. A candidate who successfully qualifies the course and satisfies all the passing requirements of the six semesters within four academic years of joining the course will be declared to have qualified for the Degree.

3.(a) A candidate who qualifies for the degree and secures not less than 75% of the aggregate of the total marks of all the six semesters shall be declared to have passed MCA examination in first class with honours.

b. A candidate who qualifies for the degree and secures not less than 60% of the aggregate of total marks of all the six semesters shall be declared to have passed the MCA Degree examination in first class.

4. All other successful candidates shall be declared to have passed the MCA examination in second class.

5. Successful candidates who complete the examination in 3 academic year(6 consecutive semesters), after the commencement of their course of study shall be ranked on the basis of the aggregate of the total marks of all six semesters.

Revision of regulations:

The university may from time to time revise, amend or change the regulations, curriculum, scheme of examination and syllabi. These changes unless specified otherwise will have effect from
the beginning of the semester following the notification by the university.
